Abstract:   (1146 Views)
Background and Aims: Due to the prevalence of caries and oral candidiasis and the complications of existing treatments, in recent years, the study of plant species has been considered to investigate the antimicrobial effects and preparation of effective mouthwashes on dental bacterial plaque. The present study evaluated the effects of methanolic and ethanolic extracts of two native plants of North Khorasan, Kakuti (Ziziphora clinopodioides) and Qantper (Biebersteinia multifida) on the growth inhibition of Streptococcusmutans and Candida albicans.
Material and Methods:  This is an experimental study. 3.125, 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mg/ml Different concentrations of ethanolic and methanolic extracts of cockatiel and qantper plants were added to bacteria or fungi. Place the plate in the greenhouse for 24 hours and then add triethyl phenyltrazolium chloride reagent to each house and put it back in the greenhouse. In each row, the first concentration of red formed the lowest inhibitory concentration. A loop was transferred to plates containing the culture medium to obtain minimum lethal concentrations from all non-red houses. The first concentration of each extract in which no growth was observed on the plate was considered as MBC and MFC. Data were analyzed by SPSS23 software.
Results: MIC of two plants was in the range of 6.25 to 3.125 mg / ml and MFC, MBC was from 12.5 to more than 100 mg / ml.  The ability of two types of ethanolic and methanolic extracts of Kakuti on Candida albicans is not statistically significant.(P=0.31) The effect of methanolic and ethanolic extracts of Qantper and Kakuti on Streptococcus mutans is  not statistically significant. (P=0.05) Lower Methanol concentration of kakuti has antifurgal and antibacterial on candida albicans and streptococcus mutans.
Conclusion: The results showed that Qantper and Kakuti plant extracts that were studied in this study had antibacterial and antifungal effects
