Background&Aim: Marginal microleakage is one of the major causes of restorative failure and may lead to postoperative sensitivity, marginal discoloration, and secondary caries. This study aimed to evaluate the microleakage of Cention-N in Class V cavities compared with Flowable composite resin.
Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study, 21 sound human premolars were selected. Two Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal and lingual surfaces of each tooth, resulting in a total of 42 cavities. Samples were randomly divided into three groups: Flowable composite with a fifth-generation bonding agent, Cention-N with a fifth-generation bonding agent, and Cention-N without bonding. After restoration, the samples underwent 10,000 thermocycles between 5°C and 55°C. The specimens were then immersed in methylene blue dye. Following longitudinal sectioning, dye penetration was evaluated under a stereomicroscope at ×40 magnification according to Iso11405 criteria. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test.
Results: A statistically significant difference was observed among the groups at the dentin margin (P<0.001). Cention-N with bonding showed the lowest microleakage, whereas Flowable composite demonstrated the highest microleakage. Cention-N without bonding also showed better performance than Flowable composite. At the enamel margin, a statistically significant difference was also found among the groups (P=0.001), with Cention-N plus bonding showing the lowest microleakage.
Conclusion: Cention-N used with a fifth-generation bonding agent demonstrated the lowest microleakage and may be considered a suitable restorative material for Class V cavities.
