Background and Aim: Conventional cancer treatments usually have complex complications. Also, the resistance of cancer cells to treatments is a special point that indicates the need for alternative therapies such as the use of herbal compounds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anticancer effect of aqueous extract of Persia rose on oral cancer cell line.
Material and Methods: In this experimental study, the toxicity effect of aqueous extract of Persia rose with different concentrations over 48 hours and repeated 5 times on the viability of human oral carcinoma cells (NCBI cell line No # C152) and Normal gingival fibroblast cells (HF2FF cell line) were examined by MTT method and finally, the optical density of the solution obtained at 570 nm was read by Elisa Reader. The results were evaluated using Two Way ANOVA test and Tukey POST HOC test was used to compare concentrations.
Results: The results showed that the aqueous extract of Persia rose had a negative effect on the viability of cancer cell line compared to the control group and reduced the viability of cancer cells. This effect was inversely related to increasing the extract concentration. However, this effect did not show a statistically significant difference (p> 0.05). Decreased viability in normal gingival fibroblasts was also observed due to the use of different concentrations of the extract (p> 0.05). Two-way ANOVA test showed that the interaction between the independent variable (extract concentration) and the dependent variable (cell viability) was not significant depending on the independent variable (cancer cell type or healthy) (p> 0.8).
Conclusion: It seems Persia rose extract cause reduction of cancer cells and normal gingival fibroblasts viability.

Background and Aim: dentin desensitizers may affect dentin organic matrix properties or occlude dentinal tubules which may have adverse effects on the bonding performance of adhesive systems. The aim of this study was invitro evaluation of Gluma desensitizer and Tokuyama Shield Plus effects or shear bond strength of (BISCO) all-bond universal bonding system.
Materials and Methods: 30 caries free extracted human premolars were sectioned horizontally from CEJ and then occlusal surfaces were flattened with standard-grit diamond disk to expose dentin surface. Teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups (control group without use of dentin desensitizers, Gluma desensitizer and Tokuyama Shield Force Plus). Bonding was performed by All-bond universal bonding system (Bisco) on exposed dentin surface and a composite post (2mm height and 0.7mm diameter) was built on every sample. After storing samples for 72 hours in distilled water, universal testing machine was used to measure shear bond strength of samples.
Results: Gluma desensitizer group showed significant increase on shear bond strength compared to control (p value= 0.01). there was no significant difference between Tokuyama and control group (p value= 0.995).
Conclusion: Gluma increased shear bond strength of resin adhesive but Tokuyama
shield force plus did not have Statistically significant effect on it.

Background and Aim: Candida has an important role in denture-dependent stomatitis. The use of lasers and light-absorbing materials to act against this fungus has been suggested in some studies. In this study, the antifungal effects of 660 nm diode laser with different concentrations of methylene blue as a light absorbing agent against Candida albicans grown on dentures was investigated.
Materials and methods: In this laboratory study, 26 similar dentures were prepared. Suspension (0.5 McFarland) of candida albicans was inoculated on the dentures. The samples were selected into three similar seven groups with different concentrations of methylene blue (0.1, 0.01, 0.001 g / l) and a 660 nm diode laser (200 mW,0 Hz,3.25 J/cm2 )was applied. Five control samples including 1 untreated, 1 laser alone and 3 different concentration of methylene blue alone were considered. The number of colonies was counted using non automatic and by eye methods. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22 by using one way t-test and ANOVA.
Results: The mean number of Candida albicans grown on denture after photodynamic therapy and different concentrations of methylene blue was significantly different from controls (P <0.001). The mean number of Candida albicans grown was significantly different between the three concentrations of methylene blue (P <0.001) and the efficiency of methylene blue with a concentration of 0.001 was significantly higher than the other two concentrations (P <0.001), but between the two Concentrations of 0.1 and 0.01 showed no significant difference in efficacy (P = 0.96).
Conclusion: Photodynamic therapy with 660 nm laser and methylene blue with a concentration of 0.001 had the highest efficiency in reducing Candida albicans.

Background & Aim: Dental students as a community model should have a positive attitude towards oral health, therefore the present study was conducted to investigate the knowledge, attitude and self-care behaviors of oral health among dental students in Yazd.
Material and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 198 dental students were randomly selected and completed a valid questionnaire consisting of four sections: demographic characteristics, questions about knowledge, attitude and practice regarding the diagnosis and prevention of caries. Data were analyzed using SPSS23 statistical software and Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis and Pearson correlation coefficients.
Results: In this study, 79(41.1%) male students and 113(58.9%) female students participated. The mean age of students was 22.47±2.99 years. The mean score of students' knowledge was 30.25±4.91 out of 45 points, the mean score of attitude was 43.27±6.95 out of 56 points. There was a statistically significant relationship between the mean of knowledge score with age and educational level and the mean of knowledge and attitude scores with marital status (P-value<0.05). But the mean scores of students' knowledge, and attitude were not statistically significant with their gender, status and place of residence, their parents' occupation
(P-value>0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, students' knowledge, and attitude regarding preventive oral care were moderate. The effect of gender, status and place of residence, parents' occupation on students' knowledge, and attitude was not significant. But in married students, age group and higher education level, the level of knowledge was also higher.

Background and Aims: Chronic periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that results from the accumulation of plaque and mass around the gingival tissue. Hypertension is one of the main causes of fertility in the world. The present study aimed to compare periodontal parameters’ means in people with normal blood pressure and hypertension.
Material and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study was conducted on patients referred to the Dental School of Golestan University of Medical Sciences. The participants were selected from patients referred to the dental school by convenience sampling method. Firstly, the periodontal parameters including periodontal pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), gingival index (GI), and plaque index (PI), were assessed in all of the participants. Then, the patient's blood pressure was measured.
Results: Participants in this study were 280 subjects including 102 male and 178 female between the ages of 20 to 50 years with a mean age of 33 ± 7.5. However, the increased means of plaque index, gingival index, and periodontal pocket depth in people with high blood pressure (both systolic and diastolic) compared to normal blood pressure were not statistically significant. Still, the mean of clinical attachment loss was significantly higher in people with high blood pressure (0.79 ± 0.78) than in people with normal blood pressure (0.53 ± 0.57) (P-value = 0.03).
Conclusion: Considering the changes in periodontal parameters in people with high and normal blood pressure and the possibility of a possible relationship between periodontal tissue loss and high blood pressure as a clinical event, the joint efforts of physicians and dentists can be played an effective role in improving community general health.

Background and Aim: Dental plaque and saliva have been considered as major reservoirs for Helicobacter pylori )Hp(. Dentists and their assistants are frequently exposed to saliva and dental plaque hence theoretically they are at risk for Hp infection. The aim of the present investigation was to compare the frequency of this microorganism between the general dentists and dental assistants with the normal control group.
Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study using convenience sampling, we collected blood sample from three groups including: dentists, dental assistants and controls to test for serum anti-Hp IgG using ELFA )Enzyme Linked Fluorescent Assay(.The sample size was determined to be 50 subjects. SPSS software Version 21 , Mann-Whitney and Linear regression backward tests were used for data analysis
Results: Out of 52 subjects participated in this study , there were 15 general dentists, 17 dental assistants and 20 subjects as a control group. The overall prevalence of Hp infection was 70.58% in dental assistants, 45% in control group and 33.33% in dentists. There was an increased occurrence of Hp infection in dental assistants although there was not a significant difference between three groups (P=0.157). The regression anlayis was present the higher level of antibodies for assitans v.s dentists. (p<0.001)
Conclusion: Dentists does not seem to have greater risk for being infected by Hp than are controls but dental assistants may be at increased risk of acquiring Hp infection from occupational exposure however this possibility needs to be proved in further investigations.

Background and Aim: Most recent systematic studies have reported on the role of periodontal disease in adverse pregnancy outcomes, which has paved the way for interventional studies in recent years; However, due to the limited number of clinical trial studies, the results of these studies have not yet been collected in a systematic study; Therefore, the aim of present study was to evaluate the effects of periodontal treatment on pregnancy outcomes.
Material and Methods: This review (systematic) study was performed during the first six months of 1400 with a review of clinical trial studies on the treatment of periodontal disease during pregnancy and its effects on pregnancy, fetal and neonatal outcomes based on the PRISMA-P guideline, PubMed, Cochran, EMBASE, SciELO, Scopus, Google Scholar, Web of Science and Persian language databases (SID and IranDock) were searched without any time limit to find relevant articles.
Results: Fifteen clinical trial studies published in English were included in this study. The results showed that treatment of periodontal disease on preterm delivery (9 studies: one ineffective study and eight effective studies), pre-eclampsia (2 studies: one effective study and one ineffective study) and low birth weight (4 studies : Two effective studies and two ineffective studies) had contradictory results.
Conclusion: The results of this study suggested that treatment of periodontal diseases may reduce the adverse outcomes of pregnancy, fetus and neonatal.

Background and Aim: Bacterial disinfection is considered as the primary etiology of pulpal and periapical lesions and as the result, adequate elimination of such infections is one of the purposes of root canal treatment; But since this purpose is impossible to achieve, reducing the bacterial load seems to be as a rational goal. Diode lasers have made their way into endodontics for better disinfection and penetration into the root canal dentine. This study reports 3 cases of Diode laser assisted endodontic treatments in periapical lesions repair.
Case Report: 3 patients referred to an endodontist for root canal treatment and 2 patients were treated with diode laser (wavelength of 940 nm and power output of 1W) and one patient was treated with diode laser (wavelength of 810 nm and power output of 1 W). The follow-up outcomes for all three patients showed the treatment success.
Conclusion: Diode laser can be used in root canal treatment of teeth with periapical lesions.

Background and Aim: Odontoma is an asymptomatic, slow-growing odontogenic tumor. It is usually found accidentally in the maxilla or mandible on radiographs or when it deforms adjacent teeth. It is most commonly seen in patients 30 years of age or younger.
Case Report : A 56-year-old man with a dentigerous cyst associated with complex odontoma in the incisive canal region. The patient was referred with slight swelling in foramen incision area. Under general anesthesia, the cyst was completely excised with excisional biopsy along with dental mass and during pathology evaluation, dentigerous cyst associated with complex odontoma was diagnosed.
Conclusion: When surgeons encounter a patient with an odontogenic tumor, even if the patient is old, the odontoma should be placed in a differential diagnosis.
